MUST DO - When landed at New Chitose Airport

1. Embarkation Card & Declaration Form
First of all, get ready with your landing card (embarkation card) and declaration form. Normally, these forms will be given to you in the flight by the crew and it is better that you fill up all the details before heading to the custom checkpoint. Please note that no meat items are allowed to enter Japan.

2. Japan Free Wi-Fi
I choose to use the free Wi-Fi service in Sapporo City instead of renting a Wi-Fi router or buying a data SIM. The reason being, it cost about the same if I just activate my Digi Unlimited Data Roaming for RM36 per day in Japan, compare to the rental cost for a Wi-Fi router. Also, there are many Wi-Fi hotspot locations in the city.

You just need to download an app, pick up the login ID/password at the Tourist Information Counter by showing your passport. That's it, you are connected!
Information on the mobile app: http://www.ntt-bp.net/jcfw/en.html
Screenshot of the app - very easy to use. Just need to tap on the 'Connect' to search for Wifi around your area.
It will automatically detect the termina settings, then connect to SSID and lastly authentication. If you are not in the WiFi range, it will show the above screen "Count not connect"
You can find the Tourist Information Counter at BF1 next to the JR Information Desk (which is located next to the entrance of JR entrance).

3. Sapporo-Otaru Welcome Pass
Depending on how you plan your trip, you may be traveling from one place to another in Hokkaido. For us, we just want to visit to Otaru for this trip, which is about 40 minutes journey from Sapporo City. Hence, we purchased the Sapporo-Otaru Welcome Pass for only 1,700 Yen per passenger. This welcome pass come with a free one-day subway unlimited rides.

We bought the Welcome Pass at the same Tourist Information Counter where we got our Free Wi-Fi access.

4. New Chitose Airport-Sapporo
I think the best way to travel from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo City is by railway. It cost only 1,070 Yen per passenger for one trip for free seating. If for reserved seat, have to add 550 Yen, which we thought it is unnecessary for a journey of 36 minutes on Rapid JR (*have to get into the Rapid train, and not the 'Local' as it will be stopping at many stations).

You can buy the JR Rapid ticket at the Ticket machine next to the JR entrance; very user friendly Poka-Yoke (mistake proofing) system to use the machine.
Got our tickets in just seconds and here we go, heading to the Sapporo City!!!
