Arriving at New Chitose Airport Hokkaido: 30/4/2016

We have been talking about traveling to Japan for years. Finally, we have decided to take advantage of this year Labour Day holidays and headed to Hokkaido for a 6 Days 4 Nights getaway. The main motivator for this trip has to be the cheery blossom season - sakura!

We booked our flight on 1st April 2016 - less than a month of our departure date from KLIA2. It was a sudden decision because initially we planned to visit Japan in the second half of this year. Since it is the best time to see the sakura full blossom (according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation official website https://www.jnto.go.jp/sakura/eng/index.php), we knew that this is the time!!!

It was a peak season for our trip because this is the Japanese Golden Week (abbreviated GW), also known as Citizen Holidays (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Week_(Japan)). Well, we got to know about this when we saw promotional banners and discounts with the sign GW. Tt was a good experience to see how the Japanese celebrated their GW but at the same time, it cost us more for the flight and accommodation during this peak season.
We booked AirAsia X direct flight to New Chitose Airport which cost us around RM1,570 per pax (including hot seat selection, meal and baggage). We prefer direct flight because it is approximately 8 hours journey. If other airlines with transit, it will take easily more than 10 hours travelling time.
Our flight took off at 11.35PM. Travelling at night means sleep all the way. So, do invest on better seat if you want to sleep well. If can afford, go for flatbed; for me, hot seat with long leg-room is good enough.

We landed at New Chitose Airport around 8.10AM and our amazing holidays started.
