Something You Should Know About Hospis Malaysia

Recently, I came to know about the meaning of 'Palliative Care', when my mother-in-law was very ill. She was then referred to a palliative care personnel by a doctor from University of Malaya before she left us peacefully. The nurse from Hospis Malaysia was very helpful. She consulted the family about my mother-in-law condition and gave us a lot of good advices to prepare for the worse. They even provide us with some useful medical items without any charges. We are glad to learn that such service provided by Hospis was so useful.

Palliative care, also known as comfort care is part of the healthcare that focuses on relieving and minimising the suffering of patients. These patients are those who are undergoing medical treatment for critical diseases, as well as patients who are nearing the end of life. This is the most difficult stage in life for those patients and their family members. The palliative care helps the patients and family members to go on with their quality life even if the patient is suffering from an incurable disease.
In Malaysia, we are lucky enough to have Hospis Malaysia, an independent charitable organisation located at Taman Sri Bahtera, Cheras. They provide palliative care to all Malaysian for free and to all age, culture, religion and social class for free of charge. They work closely with the Ministry of Health Malaysia and hospitals in order to provide support to those in need. All the personnels are well-trained and they do provide Palliative Care courses which they collaborate international palliative networks.

When we went there for a visit, we understand that they are operating fully under donation from individual and corporate supporting funds. We managed to some contributors names on the wall display next to the main entrance.
Sincerely, we should let more people know about their contribution to our society and help to contribute to their operation in order for them to expand their services to the people in need. The last stage of life is always the most challenging period for the patient and the all the family members, especially the quality of life will be affected. If we can managed it well, this period can cause less suffering and reduces the problems in the family. Let's help spread the words and help Hospis Malaysia to help more people.
