A Visit to Seoul, Korea - Day 1 of 6

DAY 1: 21/11/12 (Wednesday)

A very last minute decision to take a break from work and looking for a place where I can be a total stranger. Seoul is one of the option because I have totally no idea what can will see there and have to immerse in an environment that most people don't speak the same language. Because of that, it is a wise decision to get a ground package and selected PYO Travel which offering a package that fits my time to take off-days from work, and reasonable price. With that, I got the flight ticket from Air Asia (last minute purchase, no so good price).

Our flight was 8.50am and we need to head to LCCT early, to prevent from morning rush hours. Left home around 5.30am.

As usual for many, after check-in, it is common to look for a place to have breakfast before boarding a long 6 hours journey to Incheon, Korea. The common place for many to hang around, the McDonald's, crowded as always.

The flight was on schedule and it was a pleasant journey from boarding until landing. The seats were okay, even for a 6ft tall person like me. Knowing AirAsia as a no-frill airline, nothing much to complaint about.

The pre-booked meal was fine, pretty standard meal with few options to choose from.

Feel excited while enjoying the beauty of nature...my favourite site seeing, the SKY! No long later, finally, we touched down to the Incheon Internation Airport at 4.00pm (Seoul Time), a little bit ahead of schedule.

Upon landed, we need to take a train to go to the main building for Immigration check. Once cleared, we proceed to take our luggage, where the area was huge, clean and so organised. Without wasting our time, we quickly go out from the Arrival Gate and look for PYO Travel tour guide. At first we couldn't find anyone holding the PYO sign, but we saw Reliance Tour. Knowing PYO is a subsidiary of Reliance, we asked the person and yes, he is our Tour Guide, Mr Melvin. Our group consist of a few families, Chinese and Malay, total 34 pax, and diverse age groups.

According to our package, the first day dinner was not provided. Hence, we managed to grab some food from 7-Eleven at the airport before proceed to our hotel. We had a Rice Ball, and Teriyaki Chicken Burger, and it already cost us few thousands Won, sounds alot of money but its not; was tough to get used to the large figure of currency on the first day :P

We were advised to have our dinner in the airport too because there were only seafood restaurants near our hotel. Well, in the airport, you have all types of restaurants and food, couldn't ask for more...

At 6.30pm, we proceed to the hotel, Golden Sky Hotel & Resorts, which as 20 minutes away from the airport. It was a nice hotel, more like a resort. The interior of the hotel looks grand and clean, with high ceiling. However, we couldn't see how the exterior building looks like as it was already dark when we reached, and left the hotel the next day early in the morning. Here, they provide free Wifi at the lobby only, which is better than none. The hotel is nice, spacious and clean. Just the bed is bit hard but for me, I am fine with it; can sleep in any condition...

The bottom right corner is a miniature of the hotel. As you can see, it is very near to the airport and next to the beach. However, nobody go there to swim because it is too cold to swim. The rooms are clean and bright, with all the basic stuffs for a good night rest.

It was a quiet night in the neighbourhood, maybe because it was Wednesday. We walked around the hotel because it the beach looks nice, with some restaurants around, just to check out the area as there were no activities on this day. We need to get used to the cold weather too.

See what I mean, everywhere was so quiet with few people passing by. The moment we walk down the beach with all the restaurants at the side, every staffs from the restaurants try to approach us, inviting us to dine. No cheap dinning in when we saw the menu price; araound US$30 per pax. So, that night, we went to the 7-Eleven (known as CVS, stand for Convenient Store in Korea), just across the street from our hotel and bought some instant noodles and snacks.

Well, that's it for day 1, mainly travelling but it was fun. The first impression on day 1 of Korea is fantastic, a clean and organised country!
